Patron Tequila Reposado

Patron Reposado Tequila - Aged in oak barrels for an average of six months, Patrón Reposado is blended to combine the fresh clean taste of Patrón Silver with a hint of the oak flavor found in Patrón Añejo.

Patron History: The original Patron Tequila was produced by Tequila Siete Leguas, and brand rights were sold to St. Maarten Spirits, owners John Paul DeJoria (Paul Mitchell Hair Products) and Martin Crowley in 1989. As the brand grew, Tequila Siete Leguas was no longer able to keep up with production, and Patron built a new distillery and moved all production in 2002.

NOSE
Overall quite clean & pleasant with buttery agave, cream soda, lime rind & possibly some lingering mint. Some alcohol heat, but not overbearing. Slight suggestion of sweetness.

PALATE
Primary notes of cooked agave, something similar to butterscotch, subtle mint, cinnamon-type spice & raw vegetal earthiness. Sweetness & spice levels build with time on the tongue.

BODY
Medium firm. Nicely oily.

FINISH
Begins fairly hot with lingering spice, hints of oak & vanilla sweetness. Fairly long & drying. Tad grubby.

NOTES
Well, although there is a certain raw appeal to this tequila, I find the overall level of heat & overly astringent finish to be slightly off-putting. Overall a decently pleasant tequila, but not inline with the asking price.

With small splash of water & 10 minutes rest in the glass - smooths out slightly with bitter oak & citrus notes emerging.

My least favorite from the Patron line. Reposados are generally my favorite and this one does nothing for me. Very little taste, pretty smooth and no character. I don't know what to say that hasn't already been said, but at $40+ a bottle, there's far better options out there.

even though these reviews are critical, they still overrate this tequila, tequila should not have any undertones other than that of the wood from the barrel it was stored in and maybe a bit of a smokyness from the roasting of the agave, other than that, no this shouldn't have vanilla or caramel undertones, the fact that it does means that theres something done to this tequila that should not be done in the first place, this is a highly overrated tequila, who's only great quality is the bottle it comes in, i lived in mexico city for 2 and a half years, and i went to a lot of clubs and nice bars down there, and i will tell you, no locals order patron, only reason i can fathom buying a bottle of this, is cause im having a party and the one girl who's pants i want to get in, likes it, other than that leave it to the hip hop artists, and movie stars, cause at least they have enough money to throw away

Apart from its packaging, there is little good to say about this Reposado. Colour is a vague rust - almost clear. Aroma offers pear, spice and not much else. A thin mouth feel and sweetish entry suggests fruit, earth and very, very faint agave. Finish is hot and pure alcohol.
Here is a tequila which, despite its aggressive marketing and high price, doesn't really make it out of the starting gate. One good thing! - the labels are all sticky-backed plastic.... you can peel them off and use the elegant bottle for something else.
