Tequila Aha Toro Blanco

Tequila Aha Toro Blanco is an excellent tequila made from 100% Agave. Its smooth, delicate aroma, amber hue and incomparable flavor make it a beverage for true connoisseurs. Such an outstanding tequila deserves an outstanding presentation, which is why it is bottled in a unique, handcrafted piece of blown glass.

Also handcrafted by Mexican artisans, the bottle's rustic label adds the final touch that makes it a true work of art both inside and out.

The Tequilana Weber Azul variety of Agave plant used by Destilados Olé to produce its tequilas, is grown in the Highlands of Jalisco, at 2100 meters above sea level and just outside of Arandas. It is a cold, semi-dry zone, the ideal environment for our raw material. The climate and soil conditions keep the agave cool, lending it its distinctive aroma and flavor and enriching it with the sugars and nutrients of this privileged land.

I love NOM 1079 products, and really wanted to like this juice, but in the end there was a taste aspect that disagreed with me. Maybe it was just an 'off' production bottle, but I had a similar experience with the other expressions as well.

The nose was mostly alcohol, but some definite agave with faint spice and white pepper. Taste was initially sweet, but pepper and maybe garlic sneaking in(?); not overly offensive garlic, but some type of aromatic vegetable. Some folks have noted an olive taste, so maybe my interpretation of that particular taste is off here.

Medium body in weight and coating - this was the strong suit of this tequila for me. A fairly quick finish with only slight heat; lingering aromatics, mostly in the mouth and not the throat.

This was not a standout for me, but has a few nice characteristics. Again, I really wanted to like this more. The typical pricing I have seen is a little high for what you get IMO. It is an odd-shaped bottle that is somewhat difficult to handle.

After loving both the reposado and the anejo, it's odd that it took me so long to grab a bottle of the Aha Toro blanco. The final motivation came with the distillery change to NOM 1535. The bottle that I am reviewing is from NOM 1079.

Price: $40-50/bottle

Aroma: A big nose of cooked agave with complimentary scents of grass and and pepper.

Initial Taste: Grassy cooked agave. The sweetness is just about perfect.

Body: A nice oily mouth feel. The sweetness is well balanced with the green notes and a nice peppery kick.

Finish: A great finish with a nice peppery kick and a light cinnamon note as well. There's lots of agave flavor throughout this whole blanco. And it lingers on nicely.

I'm a bit upset with myself that it took me this long to get a bottle of this blanco. If you are a looking for a blanco with a big cooked agave essence with a light vegetal compliment throughout the entire drink, you'll like this juice. The price is about where it should be for a tequila of this quality. One thing that should not go unmentioned is the great look of the bottle. Authentic and sleek. This tequila is the total package.

Welcome to the Highlands!

This is a great Tequila that is very representative of the highlands. Not all unlike Don Julio in some respects.

The nose is of a strong mineral and sweet baked Agave with grass and olive.

The Taste starts with a soft fruity opening followed by strong Agave and a potent mineral flavor with a touch of earthiness, pepper and a slight bitterness. I don't like bitterness in my tequila but this is very slight and I think it improves the balance of the sweetness some. There is a semi-oily mouth feel.

The Finish is long and smooth with agave a slight pepper. It's got a great lasting finish.

This is an amazing blanco with sweet and clear agave flavour. I think it makes a great sipping tequila despite the slight alcohol burn because of the freshness and rich flavours. Aha toro blanco is a must try for people who loves a good blanco.

Nose is surprisingly strong extra-sweet baked agave, olive and caramel. Very sweet and creamy on the tongue, the first sip offers a deeper agave flavour, a grassy herbal note and some minerals, with just a touch of bitterness. Finishes quickly with no burn - just the slightly bitter agave and mineral fade. This is a very impressive blanco! Although Jesus Maria was on my list of places to visit last year, I was talked out of it. This year will be different - that little highland town is producing some impressive goods.
