Okay - I see the 3 reviews are extremely diverse and I want to add my opinion. My girlfriend and I just got back from a trip to Jalisco in mid-June (2012). We visited the Corralejo Distillery in Guanajuato, one state over from Jalisco. It was a fascinating ride from Arandas to the small town of Corralejo. This town is the birthplace of Miguel Hidalgo, the patron saint of the Mexican revolution. There is a giant monument in the center of town which is quite inspiring. Anyway, the distillery is just a couple of kilometers away from the monument and they have guided tours on demand. Having been on several distillery tours I can say this is the best one I ever taken. Maybe we were lucky but the plant was in full production with every step being active. There is a small store offering company products for sale as well as some local candy treats. I saw at least 40 bottles of Grand Corralejo and our "Gang of 4" bought one each. They got back to Virginia and North Carolina, respectively, in one piece except my crown lost the upper part of its cross. I glued it back on. Now - as to the tequila, I love all the Corralejo products because they are mild in flavor with good agave and fruit overtones. There is no intrusion from the aging process; a light creamy color with no viscosity to speak of. I have gotten into the habit of tasting a new tequila and then adding a drop or two of fresh lime to the glass. For me personally, this usually heightens the taste. Your taste buds may vary. As I remember, the bottle cost around $65.00. Grand Corralejo is an excellent example of a tequila carefully managed through every step of it life. Is there a negative - well, the crown-shaped bottle is hard to pour from. I hope to have this problem, again and again, for the rest of my life.

I was in Rosarita, Mexico, in 2009 when I came across Grand Corralejo. I am a big fan of the Corralejo Brand and for the price and quality it is hard to beat. I enjoy all high quality tequilas, but I always have at least one Corralejo bottle on hand at all times. I was in a little hole-in-the wall store with my niece’s husband and we bought two of the three bottles in this store for about $65 each (should have bought all three). I see the cost today for this bottle up to $100. These where the original bottles from the first 2000 cases made. The latest bottles have a different cross on the top of the bottle (as seen in internet pics). This is the best tequila I have ever enjoyed. The aroma is somewhat light with scents of oak, spices and citrus. With the first sip I was amazed at the complexity of this spirit. It is very smooth, with flavors of spice, citrus, caramel and finishes with a long note of floral and vanilla. It reminds me of drinking fine wine. This is wonderful tequila in a very elegant bottle. I have not seen this bottle in the States and will continue to look for it. I can’t wait to try Corralejo’s latest batch with the new bottle tops to see how they compare to the initial vintage.

I was hoping for a lot more from this tequila than what I actually got. This is an average tequila in an exquisite bottle.
There is almost no nose to be found here. Usually I open a bottle and it engrosses the room, but with this one, you really need to search for a slight hint of fragrance. There are is a minor scent of vanilla, but mostly iodine and medicine. With this, I was worried that my bottle might have been spoiled, but there is no metallic taste to it.
It enters very sharply giving a faint hint of agave, vanilla and weak tropical fruit. The alcohol heat overpowers any sign of anything else. I was surprised with how light bodied and thin it feels in my mouth. It’s a very straight forward taste with no complexity. For me, I found that the finish is just an acute 1 minute burn followed by a dry mouth and throat.
My friends enjoy this tequila as shots, and it is great for mixing.
With it straight up for drinking, I won’t be using it for enjoying quiet moments of contemplation.

I initially stumbled across the Corralejo Brands in a Duty Free shop and the "sexy" bottles caught my eye, so I bought the three available labels and took them home for a sample taste. I fell in love with the Anejo (red bottle) and decided to look into the Corralejo product line a little more. I found that the Gran Corralejo was never released for general sale into the United States, so I used every means available to find one. I contacted the distillery and found that there were initially only 2000 cases made and that they had been commissioned five years earlier by the President of Mexico to be released on the eve of the new millennium. I got my hands on two bottles, and found the Gran Corralejo to be, without any doubt whatsoever, the smoothest Tequila I have ever put to my lips. I have tasted bottles that cost me as much as $1200 (US), and still, the Gran Corralejo I found for $85 (US) is the finest sipping tequila I have ever tried. My brother and his girlfriend, neither of whom can stand the taste of the Agave, both loved this as well. Since the initial (5-year aged) batch was produced, subsequent batches of Gran Corralejo has since been aged for two years. Aroma is inviting with an oaky character, as well as a palate rich with the flavors of sweet spice, citrus fruit, caramel and vanilla and sits easy on the nose yet does not overwhelm. It comes across as light, semi-sweet and very smooth, with an easy Agave “biteâ€Â that some people find distasteful and stays smooth throughout the tasting. The flavor grows releasing touches of mild fruit, vanilla, spices, and a bit of a floral note. For some this may not be desirable but I found this unique taste is what made this tequila memorable long after swallowing. Its body is more a fine liquid and less an oily presentation like so many of the finer Tequilas are. It is not like many other Anejos in that it is not tremendously robust nor heavily Agave in taste, relying rather on its own depth of flavors. It goes down without any sort of attack on the palate and slides down the throat like a fine wine. The taste is there, but not at all overwhelming. The price is phenomenal for the product you're getting. I've found only two places in the US that sell it, and only one of them is a distributor. The other is a private seller. I've been able to get this Tequila for as little as $85. The bottle is Crown shaped and is a testament to the King of Spain from that time in History when Tequila was first presented to the Spaniards by the regions natives. It's perfect amber color, set in this bottle makes it a perfect centerpiece for any private mantle or bar. I just found two more bottles and am preparing to open them and see if they're as good as the first batch. I'll let you know.
