La Cava de Don Agustin Tequila Reposado

Tequila La Cava de Don Agustin Reposado

La Cava de Don Agustin Reposado, 100% Agave Tequila that is rested at least nine months in oak casks.

The hand selected agave is cooked using a slow steam process in stone ovens holding the proper temperatures for 72 hours, to obtain the maximum amount of sweet juices after cooking, using traditional crushing methods.

A laborious handcrafted Tequila, La Cava de Don Agustin is inherited with pride and passed on to the new generations with its attractive and exclusive presentation.

Light gold colour with a pleasing green cast, this reposado from Arandas in the Highlands opens with a deep nose of agave, olive and green herbals. Bold and forceful in the mouth, the agave and sweet earthy flavours dominate - smoke, wood and minerals present later. Don Agustin fades reluctantly and slowly, leaving a soft bitterness and a lingering taste of agave, green herbals, pepper and minerals. This is a modestly packaged and VERY modestly priced reposado. It is complex, flavourful, powerful, and imminently satisfying. Carefully crafted, this tequila offers a most excellent value.

Nice sweet aroma of honey/caramel, mild vanilla, and floral. Sweet honey/caramel, butter, and green olive initial taste with a hint of bitterness. Almost reminded of a cross between Bit-O-Honey candy and a dirty martini. Other notes include wood and smoke. The finish is smooth with a subtle bitter, spicy, peppery and wood caramel finish. Not bad for around $25. My limited experience on repososados includes Don Julio, 1921 Especial, Clase Azul, and Corralejo. I would say that this is a great deal but I'm totally stuck on the 1921 and really like the Clase Azul (but it's out of my price range). We'll see how the battle plays out between my pocket book and my palette. As of this writing and limited experience, I'd give this a B+/A- rating.

Purchased a bottle from Ramirez Liquor for $25. Tasted on 11/13/08 out of a snifter. I've always considered Don Agustin blanco to be a very good blanco and a great value. Their reposado picks up right where their blanco left off, and adds a bit more character to it. For the price, you just can't go wrong with this line.

Aroma: A pleasant reposado nose of cooked agave, caramel, and wood.
Initial Taste: a semi oily mouth feel. It was sweet upon entry, with an ever so slight bitterness. First taste was caramel.
Body: A very nice body of agave, with compliment of earth, spices, caramel and vanilla. Pretty complex!
Finish: A semi heated finish of medium duration with a lingering aftertaste of spice and caramel.

Like I said, Don Agustin is a very consistent line, and their reposado holds true to that standard!

Tequila Reserva La Cava De Don Agustin Reposado, NOM 1456. Light amber/yellow color with long legs extending to the top of the stemmed Cognac snifter. Moderate agave nose with nice depth & light oak. Complex smoky sweet with tastes of caramel, spice, & vanilla. Medium body with peppery spice. The finish starts at the tip of the tongue, rolls across the middle, & leaves with a nice open sensation. The smoothness of this tequila carried all the way through the entire tasting & finished with a nice warm glow. This tequila is even better than the blanco & a great value for a reposado. Purchased in Dallas for $24.95 A-/A
