JLP The President's Tequila Reposado

JLP The President's Tequila Reposado rests in American oak barrels for 6 months. Each hand crafted bottle is produced at the distillery Productos Finos de Agave, in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. Produced from the finest 100% Blue Weber Agave.

JLP The President's Tequila was created to honor a history rooted in the original development of Tequila. In November of 1758, Jesus Lopez Portillo Y Galindo, the President's ancestor and governor of the Villa of Tequila in the Jalisco region, granted a hacienda to Jose Antonio in the name of King Carlos III of Spain. It was there, in 1795, that Cuervo's daughter Maria married Vincente Albino Rojas - from whom JLP's ancestors also descends - and they founded the first distillery, La Rojena. They would become the first to receive concession from King Carlo IV of Spain to develop and produce Tequila.

I'm really enjoying this repo. It was a close out deal at a great price.( $22.00.from Old Town Liquor. JLP from a great distillery that knows how to make my favorite juice. This one is a light bodied repo. nice and smooth with a very nice lingering finish. similar to the excellent Clase Azul which costs way way more. (they also make The Clase Azul by the way) Have you tried their Casa Amigo repo? which is excellento. If you like a light bodied repo with a great agave finish then you would like JLP. Don't let the presentation fool you. this stuff is good at a great price. the presentation is going to bring the overall score down, but it still is a solid 91 plus.

JLP has long been a brand that I've gone back to often because it's reliable and the price is such that you never feel guilty about the money that you're spending. You don't have to think about it much...you just get to enjoy it. NOM 1416 makes a lot of popular tequilas...especially for those who have a bit of a sweet tooth. The JLP anejo is no exception, but it does it well without being too far out of balance. Let's see how the repo holds up...

Aroma: Notes of cooked agave, vanilla, banana and a hint oak.
Initial Taste: Light agave and vanilla with a hint of spice.
Body: Medium oily body. The flavors are a bit muted, but they are pleasant. Agave, vanilla oak, fruit and a bit of oak.
Finish: A medium-short finish that leaves a vanilla, oak and light pepper lingering. Pleasant, but not notable.

In my opinion, this is the weakest expression from the JLP line. Don't get me wrong, this tequila is still very worth in the price range. The agave seems a bit lost from the aging...and the aging doesn't give a flavor that grabs hold. It's got good balance and would be a good into tequila and has made a really nice mixed drink in the Tourist household. As with the other expressions, I'll definitely recommend that you buy a bottle of JLP reposado. But I'll just recommend that you get the blanco and anejo first.
