Gran Centenario Rosangel Tequila

Gran Centenario Rosangel is a 100% Agave Reposado Tequila that has rested in Port Barrels and infused with the natural flavor of Hibiscus. The resulting finish yields a complex perfumed nose with hints of vanilla. In the mouth it is silky smooth with rich flavors of dried fruits and a long gentle finish.

Enjoy Rosangel in your favorite cocktail, neat, or on the rocks.

The main aromas are of roses, Jamaica and sweet notes. As a secondary aroma, smells agave, but it has an unpleasant odor. It smells like cheap tequila. The aroma of the agave is very disguised with other scents. Also smell of alcohol it is present but not very dominant. And it has very mild fruity notes such as peach. I do not find the scent of oak, which is supposed to give resting process in the barrels of port.
There is little body. One would think that by being rested it was going to have a full body but it is not. The color is NOT pink, it is more like a melon color.
The initial flavor tastes like alcohol, the agave flavor is very much disguised with sweet flavors of roses and Jamaica. Not much astringency. Can be considered a smooth tequila. But the flavor is not convincing me. In my personal opinion, this tequila is not to be drink alone or sipped. It tastes nasty and definitely confirms the initial flavor it has. It is a tequila to mix. It has no good balance. I would have liked the taste of agave more present and it is not.
Definitely I give it a failing grade. I do not recommend this tequila to take it alone. Only recommend if you're mixing and still not sure of its flavor.
I was disappointed.

I'm tasting this as I'm writing and I'm really mixed on this one. I might update this later as we make our way through the bottle. The more its sitting its opening up a bit. I bought it for my wife (valentines day, I'm so witty) who's been eyeballing the bottle for weeks.

Nose- Its very interesting, the nose is saying slight agave, sweetness, lots of floral notes, a bit of oak, and port wine. Nothing that wasn't suspected from this bottle.

Taste- Again, interesting. Theres a bit of cough syrup to it. Lots of pepper all the way down and through the finish with a slight alcohol burn. You get bits of all the notes from the nose but its not a exact replication. I haven't made up my mind as if this ones a sipper but I can see it being a good mixer.

Presentation/Price- The bottle is very nice. It def. looks like a $40 dollar bottle. Art deco styling, rich rose color, and a darling lil painting of an angel on it. I cant say I would buy it again, maybe if it was 10-15 bucks cheaper.

Purchased 2/24/10, for $36, had 2 oz. at home from a 2 oz shot glass. I'll be honest here, I bought this based on the unique color, quite different to say the least. Has a very nice complex nose, but once sipped does not quite live up to what your nose was telling you. Has a floral, spice taste, medium smooth on the way down with a pepper finish thats hits the tongue/ roof of your mouth, on the way down that lingers for a minute. Heat, spice/pepper, florals never hits bottom, thats a good thing. Not oily and no tears but may pool a bit on the side of the glass. I prefer an anejo's complex body and longer legs, so take this for what its worth. If you like repo's you may want to consider this one. They say variety is the spice of life...
