It's been nearly 2 years since I last tried/reviewed a tequila from the Puro Verde line. And that's a shame because I really enjoyed the reposado. It comes from NOM 1480, which makes a lot of brands. And if you think that everything from the same distillery is the same...I really enjoyed Don Abraham, but disliked El Viejo Luis. This distillery clearly creates tequilas of a wide variety of profiles.

Price: $35-40/bottle

Aroma: A lightly earthy agave scent with a touch of honey and vegetal notes. Just a hint of smoke on the nose. Complex, but pleasant.

Initial Taste: A nice entry with agave sweetness and plant flavors. Light sweetness.

Body: It tastes very natural. The agave flavors are strong. There's a light caramel from the barrel as well that brings a hint of bitterness. Fairly well balanced.

Finish: A pretty long lasting finish that works in steps. After the initial swallow, a the oak bitterness and smoke made for an odd combo. However, that fades away and the agave and spice last a bit longer for a more pleasant after-linger.

All in all Puro Verde Añejo is a solid sipper. It's well priced for what it is and it brings the plant and barrel aspects to the table nicely. This is a good tequila for newbies or experienced drinkers. Cool bottle and solid juice at a good price. What more could you want?
